I have used PC’s for years. Back in the day, they were called IBM clones. Now everyone calls them by the operating system – a Windows machine. Windows is really good for some things.
Bible software works best in Windows. DAW software (music software) works best in Windows because the Mac really can’t process VST’s as well (virtual musical instruments).
But for anything creative like writing or video, the Mac is the way to go.
Scrivener has features in Mac that Windows machines don’t get. Plus, I’ve been waiting a year for Scrivener 3.0, and I think the Mac people are at 3.1
Another thing – I’m absolutely fed up with computer crashes and conflicts. I get tired of having to deal with resetting things that require me to go to a DOS prompt. We’re up to Windows 8.1 (some of you at 10), and I’m STILL having to go to a DOS prompt.
So why don’t I have a Mac Powerbook?
Money.
I can get a Dell laptop for only a couple of hundred.
For a Mac, I need over a thousand dollars. I looked at a couple the other day and they were around $1400 for a comparable powerbook to what I have as a PC laptop.
There’s also the question of Dropbox and Evernote – both of which I rely on. Will they work with Mac’s?
I can eventually see I’m going to end up with a Mac and a PC in my office when I’m writing full time.
