So I borrowed a title. Oh well.
The time has hit for major work on my web site, and I need to get on that. I’m starting to get regular daily traffic, and that’s what I was waiting for.
I had planned to hit this point when I had 1,500 or so articles on my web site – and sure enough, I’m there!
What do I need to do?
Well, first things first – I recently re-read Your Best Year Ever and Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt, and those steps were of course the preparatory for the website process.
The first step is to go through all of my articles and run them through ProWritingAid. Yes, I should have done that in the beginning, but I simply don’t have time. My blogging process is not like those guys who constantly use the word Feces in all of their blog posts. I just write, and upload. Considering I spent 2017-2018 writing several novels and several screenplays, I literally did not have the time!
And considering I really should increase my tweet count to 10 a day…
So, that’s step one. Maybe building an Asana board to chart the progress should be step one.
After that, I need to totally revamp the side bar. Ugly! I can put a disclaimer on a footer instead so the sidebar is not so ugly. And I can put my affiliate link disclosure on the footer as well.
Why do I need a disclosure statement? Apparently, that’s the law if you do reviews of a product on your website. You know, those “some links are affiliate links that we receive compensation blah blah blah” statements. For right now, mine will read – “I do not receive any compensation for my reviews. I do not make a dime if you follow a link and buy something.”
So, I hope to have that done by August.
Next – Better Click to Tweet. Not a lot of people use it. I’ve seen the strangest groups of people use it, and surprisingly it’s Faith Based Groups who do it the most. And that makes a lot of sense, considering what they’re usually blogging about – and I’m sure that their click to tweet is utilized a LOT!
I originally used Click to Tweet from CoSchedule, but I didn’t like the fact it advertised CoSchedule. I found the original Click to Tweet, but it was replaced with Better Click to Tweet. I installed that, but it left snippets of code in my original blog posts. All those have to be redone through Better Click to Tweet. By mid October, I’m guessing.
Finally, linking every article through keywords to other articles. You know, when you see a hyperlink in the middle of a sentence. Or if I have an article on filming an indie movie – and yes, I do have one – and I talk about lighting, that’s my cue to review some lighting or talk about lighting techniques – and link those keywords to that article.
All part of a clever plan by Michael Hyatt to keep me working on my website so he can conquer the world without my interference! The plan is doomed to failure, because Michael’s so nice that he’d just freeze up at the moment of conquering the world and say, “But that would be mean!”
And of course, his plan is delayed anyway, because he’s on the hunt for free software or free ebooks to give you, because Michael Hyatt just can’t engage with anyone without giving them SOMETHING for free. If you want to see the intentional generosity principle in action, follow Michael Hyatt around. I bet he pays for someone else’s lunch every day, with a note to pay it forward.
I just wish I was as nice a guy as Michael Hyatt is.
I got distracted. Where was I? Oh, yes, working on my website.
The last thing I have scheduled is to do massive SEO work on my website. I’d rather pay someone to do that, but I don’t make that kind of money. So, that fiddly piece of work has to wait until first quarter of 2020.
Stay tuned, for a lot of things to happen you’ll barely notice!
