Which Novels Should a Writer Write?

There’s no doubt about it. Writers write, dreamers dream. If you’re a writer, you’re goingg to write.

But that voice of doubt creeps in, constantly.

Is this a good idea?

Is this book merely another bad daydream, or is there something here I need to develop?

Want a bottom line? I’ll give you the yardstick I use (right or wrong) to determine whether I should spend the time developing the idea.

The ones that will not go away.

If you absolutely cannot throw an idea away, if it persists and festers and grows, if you continue to see the scenes unfold in your head despite saying, “no, we’re not going to work on that idea…”

That book must be written.

Take the time. Write the novel. If only to give yourself peace, write the novel.

You may find that it was the best idea you’ve had.
