I’ve been reading a lot of really bad writing advice lately.
I can only tell you, they must be trying to reduce competition.
I couldn’t believe the one with the “don’t have a blog or social media.”
That one was really stupid, because I’ve been to several publishers’ web sites and several of them flatly state they will not sign authors who don’t have an active social media presence.
Why would someone write that?
They’re trying to reduce the amount of competition. Plain and simple.
If publishers won’t sign an author who doesn’t have active social media presence, then not having one is the worst advice you can get.
And I’m sorry, but writing advice of “think of the most important event in your life – that’s your writing voice” is plainly the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I think that author (who has sold many millions of books, by the way) is just not getting his words out of his cranium. He knows what he means, and it makes sense to him, but he’s not taking the time to make sure you understand.

Want some good writing advice on finding your writing voice? Write three novels.
Now you have a writing voice.
There’s a HUGE amount of really bad authors out there. Disregard their advice. I don’t know how these people got signed to publishing contracts, really.
I want you to succeed so that these really bad authors can be buried in an avalanche of good novels!
Rant over. Thanks.
