Default Writing Programs

What are the default writing programs?

Final Draft. You should consider using this if you’re writing screenplays. If you’re just dabbling in them because I keep recommending it, then you can use Scrivener – but if you’re planning on trying to pitch and sell the screenplay, there’s no option. Get Final Draft. $250

Scrivener. Many writers can only recommend one program for writing both fiction and non-fiction. Scrivener is it. There’s many other interesting programs such as Novel Factory and Writeway, but when it comes to writing fiction, Scrivener is it. $45

Does this mean you have to spend $300 on writing software? If you’re going to be a professional writer and Screenwriter, yes.

I’d get Final Draft as a novelist just for one thing – if you get published, there’s a really good chance they’re going to turn to you to write the screenplay if the book inspires Hollywood interest. If you’re not going to write screenplays professionally and you’re not published yet, you can just get Scrivener for now.
