Coming up with ideas is easy. You do it all the time, you just dismiss most of them.
I carry a small 5X7 notebook with me, and I use it to write down ideas.
I’m stuck in that notebook. I write it all the time.
Some of my ideas aren’t that good.
Others are great.
Some ideas SEEM great right from the start, but as I reflect on them, I pause.
That’s suddenly not so good an idea. Like my post-apocalyptic novel about Samurai. Seemed great at the time.
Now it’s kind of… um…
Especially once I realized that essentially my plot was “The Seven Samurai” retold from a post apocalyptic scenario.
I have ideas.
Lots of them.
If you PRACTICE coming up with ideas and writing them down, you get good at it,
Just carry that notebook.
Write down every idea you have.
[Tweet “Write down every idea you have.”]
Use it to store to do’s also.
That trains you to depend on that notebook.
The biggest problem is not going to be ideas.
it’s finding time to write all the novels you’ve got ideas for!
