Your Writing Career Depends on Lack of Controversy
I remember when I was getting ready to create a LinkedIn profile. I remember reading someone giving EXTREMELY good advice about avoiding hot button topics, especially politics.
The very first comment was someone disagreeing with each other. “What if I’m trying to sell just to one political party?”
I’m paraphrasing the question, but what the writer did not know is he used political jargon – and promptly eliminated me as a customer.
I’m of the political persuasion he wanted to ridicule. Now he’ll never sell his product to me.
Point taken.
I don’t talk about politics for this very reason. What if I’m a B and ALL of my potential readers are an A? This is something even established best selling authors should keep in mind.
If you take a stand for a political ideology and the readers who will make up your fan base and buying audience are all the opposite ideology, you have just cost yourself your dreams.
Think about that.
